An adjustable foraging feeder

Built for the nose that never clocks out.

Five scent-trail difficulty levels turn every meal into real foraging, not a 60-second gulp.

The problem

A bowl takes thirty seconds. The day is unaccounted for.

Dog nose-deep in the Scentry feeder while its owner kneels beside it

Dogs are built to search for a meal for hours, not seconds. A bowl deletes that job in one gulp — and the chewed baseboards and 6am pacing are the energy that job used to absorb.

  • Fast eaters empty a bowl in under 60 seconds.
  • A dog alone 8–10 hours often gets no scent task at all.
  • Most slow feeders sit at one fixed difficulty, so the trick stops working.
How it works

Three steps, same bowl, for life.

  1. 01 · set

    Turn the dial

Five tool-free settings move the baffles from one open lane to a tight maze.

  2. 02 · load

    Scatter the meal

Kibble or a topper drops into molded scent channels, spreading the smell out.

  3. 03 · forage

    Raise the level

Once a level stops taking effort, move the dial up with the dog.

Features

Everything adjusts. Nothing is single-use.

Five-level dial

One turn switches depth from open tray to full maze.

Molded scent channels

Winding channels force a tracked trail, not a tipped bowl.

Swappable inserts

Three channel patterns without buying a second feeder.

Slows fast eaters

Level 3 and up adds real resistance between bites.

Chew-resistant

Food-grade nylon composite, dishwasher safe, no loose parts.

No-slip base

A low center of gravity keeps it still at level 4 and 5.

The science

What the research actually says

The honest, peer-reviewed basis for foraging and scent work — caveats included.

Contrafreeloading

Dogs will work for food even with free food available, though most still go to the free tray first.

They were willing, not drawn to it.

Nosework & mood

Two weeks of daily nosework made dogs faster to approach ambiguous situations — a proxy for a more optimistic mood.

A proxy, not a diagnosis; one small study.

Feeding enrichment

Feeding-enrichment toys raised activity and appetitive behaviour in kennelled dogs, with less barking.

Small sample; authors call it short-term.

Who it's for

Three dogs we built this for

The 90-second eater

Empties a bowl before the kettle boils

Same meal, same food — just takes longer to find.

The apartment pacer

High energy, small space

An indoor nose task, not another chew toy on the floor.

The home-alone shredder

Fine for an hour, then finds a cushion

A longer meal-time task before the habits start.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Will this stop destructive chewing?

We can't promise that. It gives a bored dog a longer scent task at mealtime; chewing habits often have more than one cause.

Safe for heavy chewers?

Food-grade nylon composite, rated for moderate chewing, no small parts. Supervise first use; not rated for power-chewers.

How is this different from a snuffle mat?

Most slow feeders ship at one fixed difficulty. Scentry's dial changes channel depth and path length across five levels.

Can I buy this today?

No. This is a concept we're testing. Joining the waitlist is not a pre-order; no payment is collected here.

What size dogs is it for?

Planned for small to large breeds, roughly 10–90 lb. Toy and giant breed versions aren't planned for the first run.
